How to Remove Lichen from a Painted Metal Fence with Low Pressure
The Gentle Approach: Soft Washing for Organic Growth
In many cases, the most effective way to tackle organic invaders like moss, lichen, and mildew on sensitive surfaces such as siding, shingles, and fences is through soft washing, typically involving chemicals like sodium hypochlorite. This method is excellent for delicate materials. However, the best approach isn’t one-size-fits-all; each cleaning project presents unique challenges based on the surface material and the surrounding environment.
A Chemical-Free Solution for Delicate Landscapes
Today’s task involved significant lichen growth on an extended painted metal fence encircling a customer’s pool area. The challenge here was the adjacent landscape, abundant with sensitive flowers and plants. To protect this delicate flora, we opted for a chemical-free cleaning method. Given the fence’s and paint’s excellent condition, we could safely eliminate the lichen using only low-pressure water. We maintained the pressure below 1000 PSI and utilized a 25-degree tip on our lance. This allowed us to gently lift the lichen without harming the paint or the surrounding greenery.
Adapting to the Challenge: Experience Matters
Every job site has its own set of variables, from the material being cleaned and the type of buildup to the surrounding landscape. Possessing the right experience to assess and address each unique situation is crucial. This expertise ensures that we can effectively clean exterior surfaces while safeguarding your home and its surrounding environment.
